Week 2, Classmate Response, Alex Lazo

October 8, 2007

I was interested in Alex’s comment that “if you claim to be a Christian, you have surrendered your life to follow all of Christ’s ways and obey all of God’s commandments. That is what you agree to when you become a ‘Christian.’” I think that there is some truth to this, but I would not be so quick to say that accepting all of God’s commands and Christ’s ways always happens prior to one’s commitment to become a Christian. For some, I believe they respond to the Spirits calling to follow, not knowing what exactly they are saying “yes” to entirely, and not always having come to know or accept on a propositional level all that Christianity is about. In time, I believe that the details of “becoming” a Christian become more and more clear.
