Week 4, Wednesday’s Class Reflection

October 18, 2007

There was a lot about today’s class that was enlightening, particularly on a fairly personal level. I was given language and concepts to describe what happens when I find myself having internal reactions to a discourse promoted within a given culture/setting that marginalizes or dis-empowers others. I have felt guilty at times or wondered if I am being too idealistic when I have not gotten on board with standard ways of viewing things or when I have not felt comfortable with the implications of a given discourse. I realize that this process of identifying and challenging a discourse is something I have been drawn to without realizing it. I now feel like I have a better understanding of how I can see God working in these situations, using me and others to challenge the discourse with humility and hopefully creating a more liberating way of life for others.
