Week 7, Decolonizing Yahweh: A Postcolonial Reading of 2 Kings 24-25, Kari Latvus, (Sugirtharajah)

November 12, 2007

I appreciated some of the details given at the beginning of the chapter regarding some of the specific differences and similarities between Liberation Theology and Postcolonial criticism. I found it helpful to learn of the particular fact that Liberation Theology differs in that it was born out of modernity and in reaction to traditionalism, and “represented the ideological approaches and atmosphere of the 1970s-1980s.” (187).  I also found the comments on the 2 Kings 25 passage to be insightful with regard to the poor  who remained anonymous and were reported to not have been deported during the exile.
